TAMPA, FL – A 71-year-old woman died Wednesday, March 8, when she was struck by a car while attempting to cross Waters Avenue in the Carrollwood area. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said Cody M. Smith, 31, was driving his 2003 Toyota sports utility vehicle west on Waters Avenue approaching Wilsky Boulevard at 7:20 p.m. Marsha Dawn Wertz was walking crossing the road, heading south. She was not using a crosswalk and it is a poorly lit area, according to the sheriff's office. Smith, who was going about 40 mph, didn't see her and struck her. She died at the scene. No charges have been filed at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.Image via Tampa Police
