Another Wrong-Way Driver Pulled Over
This time deputies say confusion, not alcohol gets the blame.

A 31-year-old woman is the latest in a long line of wrong-way drivers pulled over in the Tampa Bay area.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified about a blue Toyota heading north on the southbound lanes of the Veterans Expressway around 3 p.m. Saturday. Several units quickly responded to the area in an attempt to stop the driver. Cpl. Jeremy Davis saw the Toyota and was able to stop it about a mile south of Van Dyke Road.
When Davis made contact with the driver, Filomelia Crysell Lucero, “it was determined she was not under the influence of any alcoholic beverages, but was confused,” an email to media from the sheriff’s office stated.

While Lucero wasn’t charged with DUI, she was cited for not having a valid driver’s license and for driving the wrong way on a divided highway.
Wrong-way driving incidents plagued the Tampa Bay area in 2014 with multiple arrests and several deaths reported. The Florida Highway Patrol even conducted three special enforcement operations to crackdown on the dangerous behavior.
