Baby Formula Spill Caused Memorial Highway Backup

The mishap occurred Wednesday morning with traffic on several area roads, including the southbound Veterans Expressway, impacted.

The Tampa Police Department urged motorists to steer clear of Memorial Highway near the Courtney Campbell Causeway and several other local roads Wednesday morning.

It seems a SUV pulling a trailer lost a large portion of its haul on Memorial Highway south of the causeway, spilling baby formula, infant care products and magazines all over the roadway.

“The debris caused traffic to back up and a roadway hazard to occur,” an email from the department to media stated.

While Tampa police officers and Road Rangers used brooms and shovels to clear most of the debris, the city had to call on specialized trucks and street sweepers to finish the cleanup.

“The issue has resulted in an extensive back up for southbound Veterans, southbound Memorial, eastbound Causeway and merging Eisenhower traffic,” the email said.
