Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice & In Home Euthanasia Expanding

Veterinary hospice and in-home euthanasia is rapidly gaining momentum as veterinarians learn to listen to the needs and desires of their clients.

Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice is excited to announce expansion into more areas of Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, and beyond.

Three more veterinarians have joined Lap of Love to assist with the care and treatment of terminally ill and geriatric animal companions in and around the Tampa/St Pete area. Lap of Love's service, which provides compassionate in-home euthanasia and hospice care for companion pets, focuses on reducing the stress surrounding the difficult end-of-life decision by providing an anxiety-free and caring atmosphere for both the pet and their owners.

Lap of Love was founded to meet the increasing demand for alternative options sought out by pet owners facing the grim realization of driving their pet to their local veterinarian clinic for the Last Time.

"Our philosophy centers around the human-animal bond and the need for that bond to be as undisturbed as possible during this most difficult time," said Dr. Dani McVety, owner and founder of Lap of Love. "This can only be accomplished with the cooperation of a Hospice veterinarian, the regular veterinarian (if there is one) and the pet owner. Together, we offer families a point-of-contact for consulting, hospice care, euthanasia, cremation services and most importantly, support during this difficult time."

Veterinary Hospice is rapidly gaining momentum as veterinarians learn to listen to the needs and desires of their clients.  Just as the demand for additional diagnostics increases, so does the number of clients that simply want to keep their terminally ill pet comfortable until it's "their time."

Too often, owners are told there is nothing more that can be done.

“If the pet can be kept comfortable and his or her quality of life maintained through nursing care and pain management, then pet owners may be able to extend the quality time they have with their cherished companions”, says Dr. McVety. “So often a pet owner who has just heard that their pet has a terminal illness needs time: Time to think, time to adjust, and time to make decisions. Veterinary hospice care supports both pet and family during this time.”

In line with the human hospice concept, the veterinary model is focused on palliative care of terminally ill pets whose owners no longer wish to seek curative or aggressive treatment.  The objective is to provide the maximum level of comfort while maintaining the highest quality of life by supporting the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of the pet and their family through the end-of-life process.
