Nailing Foot and Hand Care

Darren Pena Salon describes the benefis of a spa pedicure, including theraputic, reflexololgy, and feeling of well-being.

Here in Florida, where the weather is always warm and bare feet- or nearly bare feet- are everywhere, we all want our feet to look good- but it’s just as important that our feet feel good, too. Why? For the answer to this question, I’m going to turn the blog-mobile over to Sarah Hamilton, our hand & feet specialist. Sarah has seven years of experience in her field, and she’s also certified- and yes, that’s formally certified, not taught by a friend or by Mom- in OPI gel color and CND shellac, so she knows whereof she speaks. Sarah?

Thanks, Darren. Hi everyone! Most of our clients know that a well-done pedicure, or manicure makes them look and feel better about themselves psychologically. However, many are surprised to learn that these treatments are not just cosmetic, but also therapeutic, meaning they enhance physical well-being! How? Through reflexology. In reflexology, the nerve endings in the feet, and sometimes the hands, are stimulated by massage. These manipulations in turn produce changes in another part of the body, creating an overall feeling of health and well-being.

Everything we do in our pedi and mani protocols is more than cosmetic. We want you tofeel great as well as look great. When we do a pedicure, we begin by soaking your feet in a menthol-based exfoliate. All soaking is done in a pipeless tub with individual, replaceable liners that ensure every client receives a sanitary, infection-free soak. After the soak, we gently file your feet to remove dead skin and soften hardened areas. We use an almond sugar-salt scrub. This combination is more abrasive than a pure sugar scrub but also not as harsh as a salt-only scrub. As we work your cuticles for trimming, your feet relax in a hot towel wrap. It’s incredibly soothing and relaxing.

We then massage your legs, starting at just below the knee and moving down from there. We utilize the reflexology techniques combined with gentle pressure to help release tension, promote good health and produce a flow of blood and energy that invigorates you. We continually ask for feedback as to what feels good, how to vary the pressure or massage to reduce tension and look for direction as to the shaping of your nails. The protocols for manicures are similar. We use gel polish and shellac because it helps your treatment last longer. Of course, we only use organic, all-natural products in our oils and other materials because they enhance your experience and your wellbeing. It’s how we do things here at the spa. Back to Darren…

Sarah does a great job, so please feel free to stop by and talk with her. She can set you up for a treatment that will knock your socks off- assuming anyone here wears socks! Seriously, treat your feet well, and they will treat you well in return!
