Cash Find Lands Couple in Jail
The two reportedly helped themselves to bank bags dropped by another customer.
While the old playground saying indicates that finders are keepers and losers are weepers, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office doesn’t play by those rules.
A Tampa man and woman found that out the hard way Tuesday when deputies say they happened to notice a woman standing in line at the Wells Fargo Bank, 12233 N. Florida Ave. The woman’s hands were loaded with several bank bags that contained an estimated $1,000. What the overburdened customer didn’t know that the man and woman noticed was that she happened to drop a few of those bags before she reached the teller.
“Marilyn Rodriguez and James Logering, who were also in the bank, picked up the cash bags and fled,” the sheriff’s office wrote in an email to media.

It didn’t take detectives long to figure out which Wells Fargo customers made off with the cash either.
“Detectives identified Marilyn Rodriguez as she was inside the bank inquiring about her delinquent accounts moments prior to the theft,” the email said. “Logering was identified through a mutual associate.”

Deputies caught up with the two a short time after the crime occurred at the Roadway Inn, 210 E. Fowler Ave., the email said.
Rodriguez, 30, and Logering, 26, were brought into custody without incident. After arrest, deputies say the two admitted to taking the cash and fleeing. A total of $800 was recovered and deputies also found drugs in the couple’s possession, the email noted.
Rodriquez and Logering now face grand theft and possession of Diludid charges.
