Dad Shot While Strapping Infant into Car Seat, Deputies Say

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is looking for information that might lead to the arrest of a man it says is responsible for shooting a father as he was strapping his son into a car seat Monday morning.

The incident unfolded around 4:35 a.m. as Corey Everett Steen, his girlfriend Patricia Bowick, 35, and their 5-month-old son were walking out to their car at 13130 Stone Fountain Drive. Deputies say Steen was strapping his son into the car when a vehicle approached in the parking lot and a passenger yelled out of the window, “Do you remember me?”

That passenger, deputies say, fired several shots, striking Steen in the ankle before the car took off.

Steen was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital.

He told deputies he didn’t know the suspect, but was able to provide a description. The shooter is described as being a black male between 20 to 30 years of age. He has dread locks past his ears and was last seen in a silver or gray Nissan Sentra.
