Deputies Investigating Unexplained Death

Neighbor called 911 early this morning

Authorities are looking into an unexplained death investigation after a neighbor called 911 around 12:30 a.m. today to report that a car in a nearby wooded area next to 3330 Sitka St. was on fire, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

When deputies and firefighters arrived to the address near Waters Avenue, they found a vehicle on fire. When the flames were extinguished, the sheriff's office said, they found the "charred remains" of a person in the passenger area of the vehicle.

The sheriff's office will be working with the county Medical Examiner's Office and fire officials to determine the cause of the fire and the person's identity. The investigation will require extensive forensic examination to make those determinations, according to the sheriff's office.
