Groovy Cats and Dogs Celebrates New Location

The local shop christened its new digs by hosting a party.

Groovy Cats and Dogs hosted a Grand Opening and Spring Wellness celebration May 12 at its new location at 2305 W. Linebaugh Ave.

Outside the shop, two beautiful greyhounds, Klondike and Harley, served as the four-legged welcome committee with their owners, Jodi Frazier and Jean Miller, GREAT Inc. Greyhound Rescue.

Inside, Roshan Halvaei greeted customers at the door with a vendor card that they would get stamped at each vendor table for the Pawsome Treasure Hunt with over $2,500 in prizes.

“My mom owns the shop, so I help out a lot,” said Halvaei.

Dogs of all sizes and breeds played nice together as they enjoyed pettings and pampering with free pet food samples from such top store brand distributors as Honest Kitchen, Canidae, and Natural Balance/Fussie Cat.

Lost Angels brought three of their hundreds of rescued dogs to the event. Over 700 rescued dogs come through their doors for adoption annually.

Canine Comfort Pet Massage was on hand to give the dogs a little TLC.

Photographer Laura Allen brought her portable studio for one-of-a-kind pet portraits.

“I met (owner) Yvonne through other pet events and it’s a really nice holistic pet store,” said Allen. “We hit it off, so we decided to work together.”

Outside in the back of the shop, the band One Lone Something, helmed by their Aussie mascot Boss Rabbit, played music for the shop patrons.

Great Inc. volunteers  stayed cool and more than a little damp under the pavilion as they washed dogs for a small $10 donation.

Proceeds from the services and prizes raffled benefited Lost Angels Animal Rescue, Pit Stop Bully’s Rescue, and GREAT Inc. Greyhound Rescue.

“We were really pleased with turnout –our best day in terms of sales and people,” said owner Yvonne Guibert. “We are glad to be in the neighborhood and we saw a lot of new people. We are really happy about that.”
