Hakkens Denied Bond
The parents accused in the kidnapping of two children from the Carrollwood area April 3 had their first day in court Thursday.
Joshua and Sharyn Hakken won’t be getting out of jail anytime soon.
That’s the ruling Judge Walter Heinrich handed down to the parents accused of kidnapping their young sons during a first appearance in court April 11, according to The Tampa Tribune. Heinrich not only denied bond for the two, he ordered Sharyn Hakken to refrain from contacting her sons and mother, Patricia Hauser.
Just over a week ago, a manhunt for the Hakkens began after Joshua, 35, was accused of breaking into his mother-in-law, Patricia Hauser's Carrollwood area home, tying her up and taking his two young children by force. His flight with the children, Chase, 2, and Cole, 4, would take him into Pinellas County’s Madeira Beach where he had a sailboat waiting.

From Madeira beach, the Hakken family sailed to Cuba. The government there cooperated with the U.S. State Department and swiftly returned the elder Hakkens and their two young children into American custody. A plane loaded with law enforcement officers flew to Cuba April 9 to retrieve the family.
The Hakkens were booked into jail in Hillsborough County April 10. Their sons have been returned to the custody of grandparents Robert and Patricia Hauser.
