Local Students to be Honored by County Commissioners

Two students attend Carrollwood schools

The following is from a Hillsborough County media release:

The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners will recognize six youth leaders - including two who attend Carrollwood-area schools - on Wednesday, May 2, with the County’s Youth Excellence and Achievement Awards (YEA! Awards).

The YEA! Awards will be presented at 9 a.m. on Wednesday in the Commission Chambers on the second floor of the County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. in downtown Tampa.

The YEA! Awards recognize three middle and three high school students in Hillsborough County who have displayed initiative, innovation, a commitment to themselves and others, and a pursuit of excellence in a leadership capacity. The YEA! Awards recipients this year are below (Carrollwood-area students in bold):

Success Despite Difficult Odds – Gabriella Fortney, Bloomingdale High School

Volunteer or Community Service – Gwendolyn “Gwena” Pitt, Tampa Preparatory School
