Man Arrested in Attempted Robbery and Battery at Local Convenience Store

Incident occurred last night

A 35-year-old man was charged with attempted robbery and aggravated battery after cutting a 54-year-old man in the thigh with a knife at a local convenience store, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Around 8:50 p.m. on Monday, David Doke, 54, of 11009 Carrollwood Drive in Tampa, was leaving the 7-Eleven store at Dale Mabry Highway and Hudson Lane when he was approached by Carlos Alexis Gonzalez Rodriguez, 35, of 6014 W. Sitka Street in Tampa, according to the sheriff's office.

Rodriguez demanded money from Doke, and when Doke refused, Rodriguez cut him in the left thigh with a knife, according to the sheriff's office.

Rodriguez ran away and left his white Ford Taurus in the parking lot. Deputies arrived with a K-9 and caught Rodriguez near 11306 Carrollwood West Drive.

Doke was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Rodriguez, according to the sheriff's office, was also taken to the same hospital to be medically cleared after coming in contact with the K-9.
