Patch Picks: Places to Break A Sweat

Here's a rundown of places to work out in Carrollwood

As cold fronts become fewer, and winter draws to a close, it’s almost time to soak up the springtime sun.

When those layers of clothing begin to fall off, you might notice some lingering holiday weight. In preparation for spring break, Patch found five great places to break a sweat and shed some pounds.

  1. CrossFit Jaguar, 11730 N. Dale Mabry Highway. If you’re looking for a workout with boot camp intensity that changes daily, CrossFit Jaguar will fit your exercise needs.  You won’t find treadmills or elliptical machines here. In their place will be climbing ropes, pull up bars and plenty of space to unleash your inner beast.  Classes are held in a group environment. Personal training and nutritional counseling are also available.
  2. Planet Fitness, 4802 Gunn Highway. This contract free gym prides itself on a non-intimidating atmosphere. Planet Fitness prides itself on catering to the average person, not competitive bodybuilders.  Elliptical trainers, stair steppers, treadmills and other typical gym machines are common here. Group fitness classes are not offered, but personal training and tanning are available perks.
  3. Bob Sierra YMCA, 4029 Northdale Boulevard. From a heated swimming pool to exercise machines to plenty of group fitness classes Bob Sierra offers plenty of variety to those in search of fitness.  Family-friendly music accompanies all workouts and many cardio machines feature personal TVs.
  4. Pilates Movement Studio, 11719 N. Dale Mabry Highway. Pilates is a form of exercise that its known for its strengthening and lengthening benefits.  Pilates improves posture, flexibility and tightens tummies by always keeping engaged core muscles. This studio offers private, semi-private and group classes utilizing special machines or classes that work on the mat.
  5. Classic Martial Arts, 4513 Gunn Highway.  Through Classic Martial Arts you can lose weight and learn a new skill. Classic Martial Arts offers classes for all ages.  Kickboxing, Tai Chi and Tae Kwan Do are just a few of the disciplines offered.
