Sheriff's Corporal Struck By Car; Driver Charged With DUI

A Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputy was ​transported to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries after being struck by a car.

TAMPA, FL -- A Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputy was transported to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries after being struck by a car during a traffic stop on Bearss Avenue just west of Skipper Road.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Cpl. Buddy Rudolph was driving a marked cruiser when he noticed a 1999 Toyota Corolla off the side of Bearss Avenue at 3:26 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7.

The driver was standing outside the car and a passenger was sitting inside. Rudolph activated his emergency lights and pulled over to provide assistance. He was exiting his cruiser when he was struck from behind by a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Sarah Polichetti, 22.

Deputies performed a breath test on Polichetti that showed she had a blood alcohol level of .159 and .167 percent. The legal limit is .08 percent. She was charged with driving under the influence.
