Thornton's Thieves Make Off With $8,000 In Cigarettes

CARROLLWOOD, FL -- The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is searching for a group of thieves who stole more than $8,000 worth of cigarettes April 26.

Around 4:50 a.m. on April 26, three men entered the Thornton's at 4103 Gunn Highway in Tampa. One of the men distracted the clerk while the other two entered a back storage area. The two men grabbed nearly 90 cartons of cigarettes, valued at $8,242, and fled through the emergency exit.

A fourth man waited outside in a silver four-door sedan.

Detectives believe the same men attempted, unsuccessfully, to commit the same type of theft at another Thornton's store at 425 E Brandon Blvd., Brandon.

All three men are black, about 20 to 30 years old.
