Update: Detectives Identify Two-Time Bank Robber

He's an amateur comedian, but his latest stunt probably won't have him laughing all the way to the bank a third time.

Detectives say Jeffrey Brent Lluis, 27, of 15507 Montilla Loop in Tampa robbed the same bank twice in a two-day span.

"It's an unusual case," said Capt. Andy Ross of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office during a press conference on Thursday. "I can't imagine what was going through his head."

According to Ross, Lluis came into the SunTrust Bank at 5370 Ehrlich Road in Carrollwood on Tuesday and demanded money from a teller around 10:26 a.m. He got an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot.

Lluis - who was on probation for a 2007 robbery at the Bank Atlantic, 12951 N. Dale Mabry Highway - was visited at home on Tuesday by Detective Jason Himmel, who thought Lluis matched the description of the man in Tuesday's robbery.

Despite the visit, at around 9:35 a.m. on Wednesday, Lluis came back to the SunTrust Bank wearing the same hat and glasses he wore on Tuesday. Again, he demanded money from a teller, according to Ross, and fled on foot after receiving the cash.

A witness saw Lluis leave the scene in a car that looked like one Himmel saw at Lluis's home on Nov. 9. Detectives arrested him at home today after spotting the same car at his house.

Lluis was identified in a lineup by two of the bank's employees. Lluis, who Ross says is a stand-up comedian, was charged with two counts of robbery, violation of probation, possession of cocaine and two counts of uttering a forged instrument.

Said Ross: "I wouldn't think he'd think it's very funny right now."
