CLEARWATER, FL — A 17-month-old girl is in critical condition at All Children's Hospital after she was involved in a crash while riding in her stepfather's lap on a motorcycle.

According to the Clearwater police, around 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dontrell Stanley, 35, was riding a 2017 Diax motorcycle with his stepdaughter on his lap. He ran a stop sign at the intersection of Engman Street and Roosevelt Avenue and, when he saw he was about to crash into a car, laid the motorcycle down on its side, propelling the 17-month-old girl beneath the car.

Stanley was taken to Morton Plant Hospital for treatment and was arrested Thursday morning. He was charged with neglect of a child with great bodily harm and driving without a valid driver's license.

The baby girl is currently in stable condition.
