2 Charged With Murder After Man Dies Of Fentanyl Overdose

Two people have been charged with first-degree murder after being accused of selling the drug fentanyl that resulted in an overdose death.

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — Two people have been charged with first-degree murder after being accused of selling the drug fentanyl that resulted in an overdose death.

On Aug. 9, Pinellas County sheriff's narcotics detectives responded to a home in Clearwater to investigate the death of a man. During the investigation, detectives discovered the man had purchased illegal fentanyl before he died.

Detectives said a white powder and a used syringe were found at the scene. Detectives submitted the white powder for testing, and it was positive for fentanyl and tramadol.

Detectives eventually were able to trace the drugs back to 36-year-old Brenna Powers of Clearwater and 38-year-old Jesse Carlisle, who is transient.

On March 5, a grand jury indicted the couple and the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office arrested Powers. Carlisle was already in the Pinellas County Jail on multiple drug charges.
