30 Evacuated After Fire Breaks Out at Knights Inn

One woman was hospitalized following the Wednesday morning blaze in Clearwater.

Guests saying at Clearwater’s Knights Inn on U.S. 19 had an early morning wake-up call courtesy of a fire that broke out on the second floor.

According to Clearwater Fire Rescue, the blaze at 20788 U.S. 19 N. was reported shortly after 5 a.m. Wednesday. About 30 guests were evacuated as firefighters worked to bring the flames under control. The fire, the agency said, originated from an air conditioning unit on the second floor of the property’s northwest corner.

No firefighters were injured in the incident, but a 30-year-old woman was hospitalized for treatment of smoke inhalation. Another woman, the agency wrote in an email to media, declined treatment.
