FEMA approves $97M for Florida disaster recovery projects (winknews.com) — Clearwater is set to receive more than $4.1 million in FEMA funding to repair beach walkways, seawalls, and parking areas damaged by Hurricane Helene. The money is part of nearly $97 million approved for disaster recovery projects across Florida, including support for utilities, hospitals, and other coastal communities still rebuilding from recent hurricanes.    

2. Missing USF students: Howard Frankland Bridge lane closure, St. Pete crime scene tied to investigation (fox13news.com) — Clearwater is directly involved in the widening search for two missing USF doctoral students, with investigators confirming a search at Sand Key and Clearwater Police requesting forensic help. Authorities also closed northbound lanes of the Howard Frankland Bridge and tied a St. Petersburg crime scene to the case. Deputies are distributing flyers and urging anyone with information to contact the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.    

3. FSU's Garnet & Gold Scholar Society welcomes final inductees (fsu.edu) — A Clearwater student, Grace Elliott, is among the final inductees into Florida State University’s prestigious Garnet & Gold Scholar Society, recognizing extensive learning beyond the classroom. The program, now concluding after 16 years, honors students’ work in research, leadership, service, internships, and international experiences across Florida and beyond.    

4. BKFC Fight Night Clearwater Results (bkfc.com) — A packed OCC Roadhouse in Clearwater hosted BKFC Fight Night on Friday, showcasing several hometown fighters scoring big wins in front of local fans. Clearwater’s Ryan Reber, Tony Murphy, Gabriel Hernandez, and Anthony Grubbs all delivered standout performances, with multiple knockouts and a major bantamweight contender calling for a future title shot.    

5. Leah Remini asks the TikTok children to please stop running into the Scientology building (avclub.com) — Clearwater is highlighted as Scientology’s “spiritual home,” where some TikTok users have copied a viral stunt of running into church buildings while filming. Actress and outspoken Scientology critic Leah Remini is urging young people to stop these disruptions, calling the trend a distraction from more serious efforts to scrutinize the organization.
