1. Uthmeier vows crackdown on organizers of social media-fueled ‘teen takeovers' after Clearwater Beach violence (flvoicenews.com) — State Attorney General James Uthmeier says prosecutors are crafting a plan to investigate and possibly charge organizers of social media-driven “teen takeover” events after a large gathering at Clearwater Beach ended with a 17-year-old being shot. Clearwater police had boosted staffing but still had to restrict beach access and call in help, raising fresh concerns about crowd control and online-organized meetups.
2. Clearwater police officer, Marine veteran trains four days a week for world shooting competition (fox13news.com) — A Clearwater police officer and 10-year Marine veteran is putting in four days a week at the range to represent both the city and the U.S. at the 2027 World Police and Fire Games in Australia. Officer Joel Nina is honing speed, accuracy, and decision-making while still working his regular shifts and mentoring fellow Clearwater officers.
3. 16-year-old Clearwater shooting suspect's family turned him in, Sheriff Grady Judd says (wfla.com) — A 16-year-old accused of shooting another minor in Clearwater was turned in to authorities by his family, according to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. Agencies across Tampa Bay, including those watching Clearwater, are cracking down on so‑called “teen takeovers,” increasing patrols and traffic stops to prevent more violence as local teens head into summer break.
4. Duke Energy upgrades underground power grid in downtown St. Pete to boost reliability (fox13news.com) — Duke Energy is using advanced underground, self-healing power grid technology in only two places in Florida: downtown Clearwater and downtown St. Petersburg, aiming to keep power on even during storms. Crews just upgraded aging underground cables in St. Pete, and the company says it hopes to expand this resilient system that already helps protect key facilities in Clearwater from outages.
5. Why Honeymoon Island Is a Small-Town State Park in Florida Worth a Visit (onlyinyourstate.com) — If you’re looking for a quieter escape near home, Honeymoon Island State Park sits just across the bridge from Clearwater and offers restored beaches, trails, and romantic sunset views. The park is open daily with an $8-per-car fee, bike access from Dunedin, and boat links to even more remote Caladesi Island, making it an easy day trip for Clearwater residents.
