Today's riddle: What is the 1 way to guarantee winning a small fortune at the casino? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Florida looking to buy 30-acre coastal property on north Clearwater Beach (tampabay.com) — State officials are considering buying a 30‑acre stretch of undeveloped land at the northern tip of Clearwater Beach to expand Caladesi Island State Park and permanently protect the shoreline from development. Clearwater's mayor, tourism leaders, and county officials are strongly backing the conservation deal, which could create a rare land-based connection to the park and safeguard sea turtle and shorebird habitat for future generations.
2. 2 people on motorcycle killed in crash on US 41 in Hillsborough (tampabay.com) — A young Clearwater woman and a Tampa man were critically hurt and later died after another driver turned left into their motorcycle's path Friday night on U.S. 41 in Hillsborough County. Troopers say a second motorcyclist from Tampa overturned trying to avoid the wreck, and all four people involved were hospitalized as investigators determine whether charges will follow.
3. 'I really have to answer that?': Surgeon refuses to say why he doesn't want a jury for his murder trial (courttv.com) — A high-profile murder case in Clearwater took a turn as plastic surgeon Tomasz Kosowski chose to waive a jury and have a judge decide his fate in a first-degree murder trial. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty and plan to present extensive forensic and surveillance evidence. The bench trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 14, drawing attention to the local courthouse.
4. Proposed Indian Rocks Beach smoking ban targets cigarette butt litter (baynews9.com) — Clearwater already has a beach smoking ban, and nearby Indian Rocks Beach may soon follow with its own rules targeting cigarette butts and vape use on the sand. Local cleanup volunteers say discarded filters are the most common trash they collect and can harm wildlife. City leaders will take a final vote on the proposed ordinance at a Sept. 8 meeting.
