CLERAWATER, FL — A waterspout was spotted off Sand Key Park in Clearwater as storms rolled through the region on Saturday afternoon, Clearwater police wrote in a social media post.

The waterspout was about 10 miles offshore from 3:50 to 4 p.m., Brian LaMarre, founder of Inspire Weather and former National Weather Service of Tampa Bay meteorologist, posted to X.

About a half hour later, the waterpout regenerated, LaMarre said.

Several boaters on the water "had to dodge" the waterspout, "but thankfully [it] stayed away from land," meteorologist Matt Devitt wrote in a social media post.

Police warned beachgoers to take cover during stormy weather.

"It's not a good time to be on the water or on the sand as storms lurk just offshore," police wrote.
