Baby, Mother Struck in Intersection Wreck

2-month-old child flown to hospital, three others also injured, according to Clearwater Police.

A mother and her 2-month-old baby girl were injured when they were struck following a wreck, according to Clearwater Police.

Two cars, a Smart car driven by a 78-year-old and a Huyndai driven by a 19-year-old, were in a wreck at the intersection of Drew Street and Old Coachman Road.

The preliminary investigation shows that the Smart car was headed east on Drew and tried to make a left turn onto Old Coachman, according to police.

The Hyundai was traveling west on Drew. Both cars had the green light, but it appears the driver of the Smart car did not yield the right of way. The investigation continues.

When the two cars collided, one of the vehicles struck the mother, 28, and her small child in the northwest corner of the intersection, according to police.

The baby was taken by helicopter to an area hospital. She was in stable condition Monday afternoon at All Children’s Hospital and her injuries were not thought to be lift-threatening.

Three others were also taken to area hospitals for treatment. Their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
