Beer And Ice Cream? Big Storm In Clearwater Says It's A Natural

CLEARWATER, FL -- Known for its award-winning beers, Florida-based Big Storm Brewing Co. has added handmade ice cream to its Clearwater taproom location.

Big Storm Creamery opened last week with a walk-up window at 12707 49th St. N. next to the Big Storm Brewing taproom in Clearwater.

“As a team, we are always looking to expand our creativity and venture into new, exciting products,” said Big Storm partner L.J. Govoni. “Ice cream gives us the opportunity to continue this push. In the near future, we expect to sell beer-inspired small-batch desserts in a manner similar to a ‘Bomber Release’ event: when the ice cream is gone, it’s gone and may never return."

Govoni said customers can expect some unique flavors.

"Our executive chef, Gerry Malynowsky, and head brewer, Joel Moore, have been hard at work formulating products such as Tropic Pressure and Oats in Hose-inspired alcohol-free ice creams and we are very excited," he said.

The creamery offers 18 flavors including vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, plus other varieties like birthday cake, toasted coconut and gator tracks, which is a combination of peanut butter cups, brownies and a chocolate swirl.

Soft-serve ice cream, Italian Ice, shakes, iced coffees and other items are also available at the Big Storm Creamery, which is open seven-days a week.

A specialty item on the menu includes Big Storm’s Nitro Coffee Floats, made with Big Storm’s cold brew (coffee) and coffee ice cream. Traditional root beer floats made with Big Storm’s craft root beer are also available.

The Big Storm Creamery walk-up window is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, the creamery is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The complete list of ice cream and Italian Ice flavors at the creamery features vanilla, chocolate, coffee, pistachio, toasted coconut, mint chip, birthday cake, Superman, Brownie Fudge, cookie dough, strawberry, butter pecan (sugar free), salted caramel pretzel, gator tracks, cyclone, black raspberry (sugar free) and Mango (Italian Ice) Lemon (Italian Ice).
