Belleair Residents Targeted In Phone Scam

BELLEAIR, FL -- The city of Belleair is warning residents to beware of a phone scam.

A number of suspicious phone calls were reported in the Belleair area Friday in which a person claiming to be a Belleair Police officer asks for monetary donations over the phone.

Officials advise residents receiving these calls to hang up immediately and to never give out banking information over the phone.

If residents have already given out information, they should call the phone number on the back of their debit/credit card and cancel the account immediately.

The town of Belleair never solicits money over the phone and never calls residents asking for donations.
