Big East Baseball Tournament Resumes Today

Four more games will be played again today after yesterday's four-game opening day slate at Bright House Field

The second round of the Big East baseball tournament resumes this morning at Bright House Field

The matchups include no. 5 seed Louisville against no. 7 seed Cincinnati and no. 3 Pittsburgh will battle no. 2 St. John's as a result of first round games Wednesday.

Louisville and Cincinnati begin play today with first pitch scheduled at 10 a.m.

The tournament began with Pittsburgh beating Louisville 7-2; St. John's handing Cincinnati an 8-3 loss; Seton Hall defeatingWest Virginia 10-4; and Connecticut beating Notre Dame 4-2.

Pittsburgh 7, Louisville 2

Pittsburgh pitcher Matt Iannazzo tossed a complete-game for the Panthers, forcing Louisville to scatter eight hits and only allowed one earned run. The Panthers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard racking up four runs in the first three innings. Kevan Smith led Pittsburgh's offense with a pair of solo home runs.

St. John's 8, Cincinnati 3

Robert Case's RBI-single in the eighth inning proved to be the difference as it broke a 3-3 tie for the Red Storm. St. John's starting pitcher Kyle Hansen was sharp. He allowed five hits through seven innings, striking out eight while walking one.

Seton Hall 10, West Virginia 4

Frank Esposito had over a third of Seton Hall's hits with five (the team had 13) and a pair of RBIs as the Pirates had little trouble with West Virginia.

Connecticut 4, Notre Dame 2

A pair of doubles and a home run highlighted a three-run eighth inning as the Huskies rallied from a 2-1 deficit for the win. Starting pitcher Matt Barnes kept the game in check for Connecticut. He struck out eight while walking just two and gave up just four hits through 7 1/3 innings.
