Be proactive in keeping your vision! Check yourself daily.

May is Healthy Vision month - tip of the day: Check yourself daily.

May is Healthy Vision month - tip #3 - Be proactive in keeping your vision!

Check your vision yourself.  I feel it is very important that everyone
should check his or her vision every day.  You can do this very
easily when reading a newspaper.  Just check the vision in one eye
while covering the other eye and then check the other. There can be a
decrease in vision in one eye that patients are not aware of until they
just happen to close one eye and see that the fellow eye has decreased
vision.  Diseases that affect the retina and the optic nerve that are
going to be amendable to treatment need to be detected early. We can also
check our central vision by using what is called an Amsler grid, a checker board pattern used to detect early signs of eye diseases.   Checking each eye separately with an Amsler grid is a very sensitive way of detecting early changes in the macula area where macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy can affect the eyes.

If you should discover the lines on the grid moving or waving this could be a signal that you are developing macular degeneration or other eye diseases.  Please call your physician right away and schedule a dilated eye exam.  Call or stop by the Healthy Vision Institute today for a free Amsler grid.  727-738-5900
