The GOP Platform, Abortion and Rape
Rapist impregnates 11 year old girl and is killed; should abortion really be outlawed in all circumstances? GOP platform says yes.
This is political season full of hyperbole and fluff. However one news story really hit home for me. A woman with an 11 year old daughter takes in a wanted felon. The Pinellas Sheriffs are too (lazy? Incompetent? overwhelmed due to budget cuts?) to find him to execute an arrest warrant for 14 months. He rapes the 11 year old daughter. She is pregnant. He is killed in a hail of gunfire.
So one party has an absolute, perhaps even principled stance if you really believe that life begins at conception. Abortion is (currently) legal, and nobody requires anybody to abort anything, NOBODY is PRO abortion, but they should be safe, legal and rare. The GOP wants to outlaw all abortion, rape, incest, toilet seat, etc.
So here we have a conundrum; does Mr. Romney who formerly supported the current law, but now opposes it favor requiring this child to have a child whose father was a rapist who was killed by the police?

Or does he buck the platform, the very essence of what the party is making it's case for electing it's candidate, which means that platforms really mean nothing?
I believe this is a social wedge issue, which doesn't deserve the attention it's getting, but that is to the detriment of Mr. Romney, who prefers to campaign on his business acumen, but can't. It's incredible how the GOP wants to deregulate everything except something that should be between a family, their faith, and their conscience. That's all I have to say about that....for now.
