Brandon Tripp Leads Threshers Over Flying Tigers

Threshers take series in Lakeland with a 7-1 win.

The Clearwater Threshers scored four runs in the third inning and trounced the Lakeland Flying Tigers 7-1 on Sunday (Aug. 21).

After Brandon Tripp's second double scored a run, the Threshers scored three more times on three straight two-out hits.

The rightfielder arrived in Clearwater a month ago to shore up an offense that was suffering with the loss of Leandro Castro, Tyson Gillies and D'Arby Myers due to injuries.

With his three hits on Sunday, the 26 year old is batting .340 in 28 games for the Threshers. The Cal State Fullerton alum has four homeruns and 10 doubles batting in the cleanup position.

Tripp was originally selected in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft by the Baltimore Orioles before signing as a free agent with the Detroit Tigers (2010) and Florida Marlins (2009).

Right hander David Buchanan picked up his second victory in his fourth Florida State League start. The Atlanta, Ga. native worked six complete innings allowing the lone run on seven hits.

The 22 year old improved his ERA to 3.09 while striking out five Tiger hitters.

On Deck: All teams in the FSL have Monday (Aug. 22) off. Clearwater returns to action on Tuesday at hosting the Brevard County Manatees.

Need to Know: The win combined with Dunedin's sweep of the Daytona Cubs leaves the Threshers three and half games out of first with 14 games remaining.
