There was a buzz in the air, as Phillies star second baseman,  Chase Utley was announced as the Threshers designated hitter Tuesday night.

Batting third and wearing no. 29,  he grounded out twice and struck out swinging before singling in the eighth.

Utley was the main celebrity at Brighthouse Field but lefthander John Gast was the star. The 22 year old from Altamonte Springs allowed only a run on four hits over seven innings.

The Cardinals, who have the worst team batting average in all of the Florida State League, scored five times on nine hits against four Thresher pitchers including starter Jonathan Pettibone. Pettibone (3-1) entered the game with an impressive 1.75 ERA.

Utley was uncertain after the game whether he would play in Wednesday's early start.
