Chase Utley Homers in Threshers Victory

Phillie battery mates Roy Oswalt and Carlos Ruiz took their major league road show to the Florida State League Thursday night.

And the Clearwater Threshers pulled out a major league win with a final score of 7-5 against the Palm Beach Cardinals at Brighthouse Field.

Oswalt, who led the NL in wins in 2004 (20) and ERA in 2006 (2.98), was unimpressive in his five innings of work. He gave up seven hits and three runs on 74 pitches and needed to rely on his change up to finish batters off.

Ruiz or as he is affectionately referred to as Chooch by the Phillie faithful, went 1 for 3, with a single in the fifth. Phillies Chase Utley hit a bullet over the right field fence after striking out in the first and walking in the fourth. 

All 3 players ended their nights in the fifth inning. Ruiz will fly to Atlanta and join the Phillies. Utley is expected to be in the Thresher line-up again Friday evening. Oswalt was unavailable for comment.

Notes: Zack Cox the third basemen for the Cardinals hit his first professional home run Thursday night and went 3 for 5. He was the 2010 first team all star in the SEC with the Arkansas Razorbacks. The 22 year old is projected to be the St. Louis Cardinals starting third basemen in 2014.
