Update: Clearwater Bicyclist Dies in Crash

Update: The cyclist has been identified as Kyle Schlittenhart, 42.

Earlier:

A 42-year-old man is dead following a collision with a Chevy Tahoe on 58th Street North.

The accident happened just before midnight as the Tahoe, driven by Eddie James Mitchell Jr., 48, of Tampa was heading eastbound on State Road 686 approaching 58th Street. The bicyclist was heading north on the sidewalk of 58th Street with no lights, the Florida Highway Patrol said in an email to media. The cyclist, dressed in dark clothing, didn’t stop for the crosswalk sign and rode into the path of Mitchell’s Tahoe.

The cyclist, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to Northside Hospital where he later died.

No charges have been filed in the case.
