Gun Hoax Prompted Clearwater High Lockdown
Police say a student 'fabricated' the incident.

A precautionary Thursday morning lockdown on the Clearwater High School campus has been lifted.
The Thursday morning lockdown was enacted after a student claimed to have witnessed another student in a bathroom with a gun. That claim, however, turned out to be “fabricated,” the police department wrote in an email to media.
“The student who alleged the incident happened called a parent who came and picked up the child from school,” the police department wrote in an email to media.

The child left the campus without notifying school administration or police about the incident, the email stated.
The investigation was launched when the school resource officer heard rumors about the incident and requested back-up at the school.

“The student and parent initially refused to cooperate with law enforcement,” the email noted. Once police were able to interview the student, they found out he did not see a gun.
The lockdown was subsequently lifted.
The call for back-up units at the school came in at 9:01 a.m.
It is unclear if the student who prompted the incident will face charges.
