Clearwater Man Facing Charges Of Molesting 5-Year-Old

The investigation began on Jan. 3 after the 5-year old told an adult about sexual activity.

CLEARWATER, FL – A Clearwater man is facing a capital sexual battery charge after being accused of molesting a 5-year-old girl.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Crimes Against Children Unit arrested Charles Kenneth Spoonemore, 47, Friday, Jan. 5, based on an accusation that he molested a little girl he knew in December.

According to detectives, the investigation began on Jan. 3 after the 5-year old told an adult about sexual activity that had occurred between her and the accused while the girl was in his care.

Through various interviews and investigative techniques, detectives were able to confirm the victim's allegations and that the inappropriate activity occurred on more than one occasion.

At about 1:05 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, detectives attempted to interview Spoonemore at the Sheriff's Administration Building at 107501 Ulmerton Road in Largo. Spoonemore denied the allegations.

He was arrested and charged with one count of capital sexual battery. He was subsequently transported to the Pinellas County Jail without incident.
