Clearwater To Offer Shredding, Prescription Drug Disposal Event

The Clearwater Police Department and the city's Solid Waste Department will offer free shredding for Clearwater residents on Saturday.

CLEARWATER, FL -- The Clearwater Police Department and the city's Solid Waste Department will offer free shredding for Clearwater residents on Saturday, April 28, at Westfield Countryside Mall, 27001 U.S. 19 N., Clearwater.

In addition, the police department will conduct a prescription drug collection event at the same location in the parking lot near the former L.A. Fitness site.

The on-site shredding is offered as a deterrent to identity theft. Residents can bring documents that have sensitive information on them and they will be shredded. Throwing such items away in the trash is not a good idea as they can be obtained by criminals who go through your trash.

The prescription drug collection is designed to get old, unwanted or expired medication out of homes. Many times, prescription drugs are targeted during residential burglaries or can end up in the hands of teens. It's not safe for the environment to throw them in the garbage or flush them down the toilet.

The medication will be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
