CLEARWATER, FL — Clearwater Police detectives are asking for the public's help to reel in a grand theft suspect who tried to make off with more than $1,000 in fishing gear from Walmart.

The attempted theft occurred the afternoon of Aug. 14 at 23106 U.S.19 N. A man loaded a collection of fishing gear into his cart and then left the store without paying. When store security workers confronted him in the parking lot, he abandoned the cart but grabbed some of the gear. He then ran into a field behind the store, where he dropped the rest of the property.
