Clearwater Recognizes National Safe Boating Week From May 16-22

CLEARWATER, FL — It is important now more than ever to practice boating safety with so many people out on their boats enjoying the beautiful weather. National Safe Boating Week is May 16-22. Take a moment to review some of the most important boating safety tips and the critical importance of always wearing a life jacket on the water.

Follow these safe boating tips:

• Wear a life jacket
• Make sure your life jacket is U.S. Coast Guard approved
• Know state boating laws
• Take a boating safety course
• Make sure your boat is prepared
• Be sure to know your boat's capacity
• Check the weather, including the water temperature.
• Dress properly
• Always file a float plan
• Always follow navigation rules. Know the "rules of the road"
• Don't drink while you boat
• Beware of carbon monoxide poisoning
• Keep in touch

If you plan to launch your boat from the Seminole Boat Ramp this weekend, be sure to check the Pinellas County Sherriff’s Office Beach Dashboard at https://pcsoweb.com/beachcapacity for the current capacity at the ramp. If you do go, park in a legal parking spot.
