Clearwater Neighborhoods To Receive $75 For Taking Low-Waste Pledge
To make organizing a low-waste event as easy as possible, the city has partnered with the Pinellas Community Compost Alliance.

CLEARWATER, FL — The city of Clearwater is gearing up for another Neighborhoods Day, an annual citywide series of neighborhood block parties celebrating Clearwater’s neighborhoods. This year’s event will be March 28 and will have a special, sustainable twist: the city is asking Neighborhoods Day organizers to make their block party events as low waste as possible, making it the city of Clearwater’s first-ever, low-waste event.
To make organizing a low-waste Neighborhoods Day event as easy as possible, the city has partnered with the Pinellas Community Compost Alliance to provide a compost pick-up service for neighborhoods that take the city’s low-waste pledge. The city is also offering a $75 incentive for neighborhoods that take the pledge.
“Our individual choices can make a positive impact,” said Sheridan Boyle, the city’s sustainability coordinator. “When an entire neighborhood chooses something positive, that makes for a powerful impact. This Neighborhoods Day will set a precedent in establishing our community’s commitment to Clearwater’s environment.”

As always, city leaders and staff members will visit each block party, giving both citizens and city staff an opportunity to meet, socialize and discuss issues if there are any. The Kona Ice Trucks will also tour block parties, offering free snow cones to all who attend Neighborhoods Day. This year, even Kona’s cups and spoons will be compostable.
The deadline to register your neighborhood is March 1. Participation in Neighborhoods Day is capped at 35 neighborhoods, so make sure to register your neighborhood early.
