Clearwater SWAT Team Trades Assault Rifles For Paint Brushes

On Wednesday, about two dozen SWAT team members joined Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County complete new homes.

CLEARWATER, FL – Members of the Clearwater SWAT Team came armed with paint brushes and rollers instead of battering rams and stun grenades to help put finishing touches on 12 new homes for low-income families.

On Wednesday, Feb. 7, about two dozen SWAT team members joined Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County in completing the new homes just north of downtown Clearwater.

The houses are in various stages of construction and, when finished, will help local families realize the American dream of home ownership, said Jack Shanks, director of volunteer services for Habitat for Humanity.

"Last year, Habitat for Humanity was kind enough to let our SWAT team use the structures that were going to be torn down as a training ground," said Police Chief Dan Slaughter. "It was time for us to return the favor."
