Clearwater Wrong-Way Driver Charged With DUI
A 60-year-old man has been arrested for driving under the influence after Clearwater Police said he drove the wrong way on U.S. 19.

CLEARWATER, FL -- A 60-year-old man has been arrested for driving under the influence after Clearwater Police said he drove the wrong way on U.S. 19 and refused to stop when police tried to pull him over.
According to police, around 3:30 a.m. Friday morning, an officer noticed Anthony Tucker driving north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 19, just south of Gulf to Bay Boulevard.
At about the same time, Largo Police officers issued a bulletin about a wrong-way driver headed north from the Largo Police jurisdiction.

Multiple police vehicles converged on the scene to alert drivers in Tucker's path and to get him to stop, but Tucker continued on even after police deployed stop sticks.
Tucker finally came to a stop at U.S. 19 and Countryside Boulevard when he was unable to get around a large flatbed tow truck.

When he got out of his car, police said he was swaying and stumbling, and he smelled of alcohol. After performing poorly on a roadside sobriety test, he was charged with DUI and taken to the Pinellas County Jail.
