Cold Weather Shelters Opening in Pinellas County
The shelters are opening their doors as temperatures are forecast to dip in the Tampa Bay area as the week gets under way.
CLEARWATER, FL — Sunday’s deadly storms have made their way through the Tampa Bay area, but now cold weather is on the way. With that in mind, Pinellas County has announced its cold weather shelters will open Monday and Tuesday nights.
Most shelters in the county will open between 6 and 6:30 p.m. on both Jan. 18 and Jan. 19, the county announced in an email to media. One shelter will open at 5 p.m.
The National Weather Service is anticipating clear, but cold conditions during the overnight hours on Monday and Tuesday. The overnight low temperature in Clearwater Monday is expected to fall to the low 40s with similar conditions anticipated on Tuesday evening. Temperatures are anticipated to warm slightly moving into Wednesday when a high around 60 is expected with a low in the lower 50s.

Families will be placed in family shelters on cold nights. Families should call 2-1-1 to make these arrangements.
Shelter guests are provided with hot evening meals and warm places to stay. Breakfast is also served the following morning.
