Cops, Kids Hit the Road Wednesday

Several local elementary schools are taking part in International Walk to School Day.

Clearwater area motorists will want to keep an eye out for extra foot traffic Wednesday morning.

The Clearwater Police Department has announced that its officer plan to escort students from Belleair, Eisenhower, Leila Davis and Plumb elementary schools as they take part in International Walk to School Day. Officers will be on foot, bicycle, in cars and even on motorcycles.

Parents, teachers and students will meet up with officers about an hour before school starts for processions to the four local campuses.

“It’s part of an effort to educate students and motorists about pedestrian safety laws and to encourage one group to always look out for the other,” the police department explained in an email to media.
