Cops Ready to Serve Up Burgers and Fries
An annual fundraiser to benefit the Special Olympics is just around the corner.
The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run is still months away, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early for cops to begin raising money for the cause.
The men and women of the Clearwater Police Department seem to agree. They’ve announced they’ll be taking part in a special event to benefit Special Olympics next month at Red Robin.
“You’ know how we like to protect and serve,” the agency asked fans on its Facebook page. “Well, on Oct. 24, it’s all about serving.”

The type of serving officers will do, however, isn’t their standard fare. Rather than help solve crimes or assist residents in a bind, they’ll be serving up burgers, fries, shakes and more. Proceeds from the day’s event will go toward Clearwater’s contribution to the annual run.
“We’ll bus tables, do dishes, you name it – all for a good cause,” the agency promises.

Officers will be work in two shifts on the 24th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and then from 4 to 8 p.m., agency spokesman Rob Shaw said.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics began in 1981 and has raised more than $500 million for the cause, the event’s website states. The actual run takes part in locations across the country during which officers and supporters run for the cause while raising money. The Tampa Bay area’s runs are generally staged in the spring.
The Oct. 24 fundraiser takes place at the Westfield Countryside Mall Red Robin, 27001 U.S. Highway 19 N., No. 1130.
