Cops: Teen Stole Car, Crashed into Fence

The 15-year-old is also accused of assaulting a police K-9.

A 15-year-old boy faces a host of charges after Clearwater Police say he swiped a 2013 Lincoln and crashed it into a fence.

The crime unfolded shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday when police attempted to pull over two stolen cars in the area of Union Street and Highland Avenue. It seems the Lincoln and a 2005 Infinity had both been stolen and were spotted by officers in that area.

When police tried to pull the cars over, the drivers fled, an email to media stated. Police did not give chase, the email stated, because both cars took off at a high rate of speed.

Police, however, caught up with the driver of the Lincoln shortly after 11 p.m. because he crashed the car into the fence on the north side of the Clearwater Country Club.

The teen, police said, tried to flee on foot this time, but was brought into custody courtesy of a K-9. During his apprehension, police say the teen assaulted the dog, but did not injure it. The boy, however, had to be treated for bites he received after kicking the dog.

The teen was booked into the Juvenile Assessment Center on such charges as grand theft auto, fleeing and eluding and battery on a law enforcement dog.

The Infinity was recovered at Flagler Drive and Gentry Street. Its driver was not apprehended, police say.
