Cougar Boys Track and Field Team Grabs Regional Title

Were they as dominant as last year? Maybe not, but they still are the best team in Region 2.

The Countryside boys track and field team scored 80 points at this year's regional tournament, taking the top spot and sending several athletes to the state finals next week.

The boys 4x400m team repeated as regional champs, finishing almost two seconds faster than second place. The team of: Jordan Rossi, Wylan Bernitt, Ricy Brown and Derek Messmore moves on to states and has a legitimate shot at making the finals.

Brown continues to impress. He qualified in 800m, long jump and 4x400m relay, every event he entered. Brown also took first place in the 800m and 4x400m.

Bernitt won the boys 300m hurdles in 38.87 seconds; a time that would have got him a bid in the finals at states last year.

Messmore grabbed second place in the boys 400m with a time of 49.02 seconds. 

Teammate Denzel Thompson is going to states in triple jump and high jump. He triple jumped 45 feet 9 inches giving him third and jumped 6 feet 2 inches grabbing second place in high jump.

Senior Parker Polgar pole vaulted over a 14 foot bar and took third place, punching his ticket to states.

On the girls side; sophomore Victoria Jackson got through, taking fourth place in triple jump with a jump of 34 feet 1 inch.
