Countryside Cougars Boys Nab Second Straight District 5 Title.

Both boys and girls track and field teams had good outings and are taking athletes to the regional meet next week.

The continued their dominance over District 5 by claiming the boys team title for the second year in a row. They finished with 180 points, 37 more than second place St. Petersburg.

Countryside qualified many athletes for regionals after competing against five other high schools at the 4A Region 2 District 5 tournament Wednesday.

All three boys relay teams, including taking first in the 400m and 800m relays.

Among those athletes moving on to regionals on the boys side are:

Ricy Brown - first in 800m; first in long jump.

Denzel Thompson - first in triple jump, second in high jump.

Marrieo Taylor - second in long jump.

Jordan Rossi - fourth in 400m finals; third in 200m finals.

Derek Messmore - second in the 400m finals; made finals in 200m.

Wylan Bernitt - first in 300m hurdles.

Nicholas Bushman - second in 300m hurdles; third in the 110m hurdles.

Connor Benhakuma - second in the 800m.

 Kristof Williams - fourth in 1600m.

Paul McKenna - fourth in 3200m

Boys relays - first place in the 4x400m; first place in the 4x800m, third place in the 4x100m.

On the girls side:

Victoria Jackson took second place in triple jump with a 34 foot 1 inch jump. She grabbed third place in girls 300m hurdles with a time of 52.22 seconds. She also took third in long jump with a 15 foot 6 inch jump, tied for second before a tie-brekaer.

Senior Shaye Pearn won third place in high jump with a 4 foot 8 inch jump.

Freshman Mary Mason qualified in fourth place in pole vault at 9 feet.
