Cubs Break Tie With Three In The Eighth
Brody Colvin gives up only one run through eight innings but the bull pen lets the game slip away, losing 4-1 to the Cubs.
The Threshers loaded the bases in the ninth with one out but Cubs closer Frank Batista retired the next two batters saving a Daytona 4-1 victory Saturday (June 25).
Brody Colvin allowed only one earned run through seven complete innings on just five hits. Colvin, 21, was in control most of the night except for the fifth when Logan Watkins lead off with a triple and scored.
Red hot Jonathan Singleton opened his night with a double down the right-field line. After grounding out in the third, he hammered one to the wall in left where Evan Crawford leaped but was unable to handle it. In the eighth he walked. He was left in the on deck circle in the ninth.

Catcher Sebastian Valle and pitcher Jarred Cosart were selected to the prestigious All-Star Futures Game in Phoenix, Arizona on July 10th. All 30 major league teams will be represented at the event, held during All-Star weekend.

Notes: The Gulf Coast Phillies picked up their fourth win of season with a 9-4 victory over the GC Yankees on Saturday afternoon. Brian Pointer, from Reno, Nevada led the way with three hits including a triple, double and 2 RBI's. The nineteen year old was selected by the Phillies in the 28th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft.
Tyler Cloyd was the odd man out with the Threshers this season. Clearwater had five young prospects starting and Justin Friend closing. Cloyd, 24, was left to share the middle relief duties. His fortunes have changed since being called up to Reading AA June 1. The native of Bellevue, Nebraska has an ERA of 2.77 in four quality starts and one relief appearance.
