Daytona Cubs Sweep Threshers

The young Clearwater pitchers are no match for Daytona hitters as the Cubs win 8-6.

The Daytona Cubs completed their three game sweep of the Clearwater Threshers Monday (June 13), beating them 8-6.

The Threshers left 14 men on base. They were held scoreless through the first five innings, even though they compiled seven hits and two walks.

In the sixth, Clearwater sent nine men to the plate and only scored three times. The top five of the Threshers batting order all came up with the bases loaded and produced just two runs, both coming on RBI walks.

Again a budding young Phillies pitching prospect could not handle the Daytona Cub bats. Jarred Cosart, allowed six runs over 4 and 2/3 innings. Justin Friend, who has been solid out of the bull pen in a closing roll, would take the loss. He gave up  two runs, on two hits and two walks in the eighth.

The Clearwater Threshers visit Florida Auto Exchange Stadium Tuesday (June 14), to begin a three games series with Dunedin Jays. This will be the final series before the All-Star break.

The Threshers have had the Jays number this year winning eight of ten.

Even though both teams are eliminated from the first half of the Florida State League season these games still have a great deal of importance.

If the Daytona Cubs were to win the second half as well, the team with the second best overall record in the division would be the fourth team in the playoffs. The Threshers lead the Jays by 3 games.
