Driver Dies After Striking Utility Pole In Clearwater

CLEARWATER, FL -- A 57-year-old St. Petersburg woman has died after hitting a utility pole and road sign in Clearwater.

Around 5 p.m. on Sunday, Virginia Witherspoon was traveling north on the U.S. 19 and Drew Street frontage road near Best Buy when she lost control and struck a utility pole. The vehicle was then propelled into an adjacent Florida Department of Transportation sign, killing Witherspoon.
